Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

@Millennial Farmer The only real reason I can see why the RFS standards for ethanol is it's the cheapest method to increase octane in gasoline. The US has plenty of crude oil, we just need to extract it. Renewable true, but it takes A LOT of water to grow it, water that is growing scarce. Look at the Ogallala Aquifer, and how it's rapidly becoming depleted as we pull more water from it than is being renewed by rainfall.
Millennial Farmer
Millennial Farmer 2 kuukautta sitten
40% of the feed value is left and sold as a high protein livestock feed. It also lowers emissions, lessens our dependency on foreign oil, and is renewable.

So when it’s all said and done now you have faster spring drainage into a smaller tributary which fills into a larger stream and into the Minnesota river then into the St. Crouch into the Mississippi. This causes flooding into areas that never have flooding.
Master Pipe Layer
Master Pipe Layer 2 kuukautta sitten
The soil is like a sponge. At the year end the amount of water will be really close to the same amount with a more consistent flow rather then running a lot of water each time it rains. All the water goes to the same place as it did before so it actually has an opposite effect. There is less flooding with tile then without.

With all the drainage tiles connected, do they drain into a common pond or a creek or river? Can the water with the high nutrient content be reapplied to the farm so the nutrients are not wasted?

@Millennial Farmer good point. I just grew up around farms and woodland. Now mostly residential the newer residents blame farmers for polluted water ways which I do not believe because say 1000 acres produce less pollution than a 1000 acres of housing. It the plastic thing that gets me is all.
Millennial Farmer
Millennial Farmer 3 kuukautta sitten
Drain tile actually helps keep more nutrients within the soil. Why would farmers want to get rid of the nutrients?
